Anatomo-Pathologie - Centre Pasteur du Cameroun

Pathological Anatomy & Cytology Laboratory (ANAPATH)

Overview: The ANAPATH department is central to cancer diagnosis. This department analyzes all samples (fluid or tissue) from the body to make diagnoses that will enable patient care.

Services: The ANAPATH laboratory also performs immunohistochemistry analyses, which guide the physician’s treatment in cases of cancer. It also performs sperm analysis for the assessment of male fertility. The following are analyzed daily in this laboratory:

  • All biopsies ;
  • Surgical specimens;
  • Body fluids (except blood);
  • Pap smears (for cervical cancer screening);
  • Sperm analysis;
  • Immunohistochemistry;
  • Molecular biology (FISH), currently being implemented.

It should be noted that the CPC houses the only anatomic pathology department that performs immunohistochemistry analysis in Cameroon. A test widely used by oncologists for the diagnosis and/or monitoring of cancers by detecting abnormal cells such as those found in cancerous tumors.
