Partnership: a new synergy to strengthen the quality and reliability of agri-food products in Cameroon

The Pasteur Center of Cameroon (CPC) and the Agency for Standards and Quality (ANOR) officially signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in the CPC Conference Room. This eight-page document deals with the analysis of products and derivatives from the agri-food sector, drinking, mineral, and wastewater, as well as foodstuffs. The analyses planned under this collaboration will be carried out by the CPC Hygiene and Environment Laboratory.

Speaking, Dr. Mirdad Kazanji, Director General of the CPC, reminded that these activities are fully in line with the public health mission entrusted to the institution. He also emphasized that the Pasteur Center of Cameroon remains, to this day, the only laboratory accredited at the national level for conducting microbiological analyses of water and food. Its international accreditation and consistent alignment with global standards of quality enhance its reliability among all stakeholders involved in health risk management (or “…involved in food safety”).

For her part, Mrs. Chantal Andely, Director General of ANOR, reminded that conformity assessment is one of the Agency’s main missions, in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 2019/143 of March 19, 2019. She specified that the growing demand for certification, the lack of suitable assessment tools, and the need to cover the entire territory as well as all “Made in Cameroon” or imported products have led ANOR to internationalize some of its activities, particularly sampling, testing, and analysis.

In this dynamic, the CPC will support ANOR through:

microbiological analyses, allowing the detection of pathogenic microorganisms or hygiene indicators;

physicochemical analyses, ensuring the conformity of the characteristics and composition of the products;

toxicological analyses, aimed at identifying any substances that may be dangerous to public health.

According to Mrs. Andely, this collaboration significantly strengthens the credibility of ANOR and represents an important step forward for the quality and safety of products consumed by the population. By combining their expertise, the Pasteur Center of Cameroon and ANOR are thus laying a decisive milestone for consumer protection and the continuous improvement of product quality on the national market. This strategic collaboration fits fully within the import-substitution approach promoted by the Government, contributing to strengthening the competitiveness and reliability of ‘Made in Cameroon’. It paves the way for a safer health environment, serving the population and the country’s economic development.
