Dr. Mathurin Téjiokem obtains his Accreditation to Supervise Research (HDR)

Dr. Mathurin Tejiokem, Head of the Epidemiology and Public Health Department at CPC, successfully obtained his HDR at the University of Paris-Saclay in December 05 2025, following a detailed presentation and high-level scientific discussions.

The jury — composed of Professor Nicolas NAGOT (University of Montpellier), Valériane LEROY (INSERM – University of Toulouse), Professor Joseph KAMGNO (University of Yaoundé I), Joseph LARMARANGE (IRD – CEPED Paris), Professor Nicolas NOËL, and Professor Laurence MEYER (University of Paris-Saclay) — unanimously praised the exceptional quality of his work.

His research, entitled “Contribution to the Improvement of the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV, Pediatric HIV Care, and the Monitoring of Zoonoses in Cameroon,” highlights:
• a significant reduction in mother-to-child transmission of HIV when recommendations are strictly followed;
• the feasibility and benefits of early treatment in children;
• but also persistent challenges: growth delay, neurocognitive disorders, irregular follow-up.
Pilot projects carried out in various settings have also demonstrated the relevance of innovative monitoring tools based on robust data and approaches adapted to epidemiological realities.

Dr. Tejiokem plans to further develop:
• support for adolescents living with HIV, particularly in their transition to adult care;
• exploration of avenues toward a possible cure;
• strengthening the monitoring of emerging zoonoses, within an integrated “One Health” approach, involving communities and family surveys.

Obtaining this HDR confirms Dr. Tejiokem’s ability to conduct large-scale independent research, supervise teams, oversee doctoral theses, and fully contribute to academic committees.
