AMAX Summer School

Modelling, data science and artificial intelligence on the programme of the second AMAX summer school, co-organised by the Centre Pasteur du Cameroun in Limbé.

The seaside town of Limbé (South-West region) is hosting the second AMAX 2025 summer school from 1 to 14 May 2025. This international university programme aims to build African capacity in modelling, data science and artificial intelligence for public health, focusing on technical excellence, promoting gender equality and supporting better health for women and communities across Africa.

Students, researchers and public health experts, the 35 participants come from 9 different countries, including 8 African countries (Central African Republic, Kenya, Senegal, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Niger and Cameroon) and 1 Latin American country (Peru). Of these, 63% were women, reflecting the organisers’ commitment to gender equality. Selected after a highly selective process 96 applications were received from Africa and elsewhere, the participants come from a variety of academic backgrounds, working in fields such as mathematical epidemiology, statistics, physics, computer science and epidemiology – all disciplines that play a crucial role in improving public health.

A real opportunity for learning and sharing, this school will provide a framework for doctoral students to take stock of the progress of their research, and also to have in-depth discussions with the trainers. Among the trainers at this meeting is Jules TCHATCHUENG, Data Scientist at the Centre Pasteur du Cameroun (CPC). In addition to the CPC, the work in Limbé was made possible by the Institut Pasteur in Tunis, the AIMS teams and the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation.
