A framework agreement between MINRESI and the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon in the service of research and public health

Yaoundé, April 7, 2026 – The Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) and the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon (CPC) have officially signed a framework partnership agreement, marking a major milestone for research and public health in Cameroon.

The ceremony, presided over by the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Dr. Madeleine Tchuinte, brought together prominent figures from the scientific, academic, and institutional worlds, as well as national and international partners committed to the development of research in Cameroon.

In his speech, the Minister emphasized that this agreement goes beyond a mere administrative dimension to establish itself as a founding and strategic act. It reflects the shared will to build a robust research system, capable of effectively addressing contemporary challenges, particularly in the field of public health.

This partnership aligns with the national vision driven by the highest authorities, which positions research and innovation as essential levers for economic and social transformation, in line with the 2020-2030 National Development Strategy.

The Centre Pasteur of Cameroon, a key partner

Created in 1959, the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon has established itself today as a reference actor in public health. Drawing on its scientific expertise, national presence, and membership in the international Pasteur network, the CPC plays a central role in:

disease surveillance;
diagnosis and response to health alerts;
production of reliable data for public action;
high-level scientific training and research.
Its technical capabilities and quality standards, notably through international accreditations, make it a strategic partner for MINRESI in the implementation of applied research policies.

Turning science into concrete solutions

The framework agreement has a clear goal: to accelerate the transformation of research results into concrete solutions for the benefit of populations. In this regard, several initiatives led by the CPC already illustrate this dynamic, notably the development of innovative platforms for managing health data, as well as research on malaria and vector-borne diseases.

Clearly defined operational priorities

To ensure a real impact, five priority areas have been defined:

– The organization of the Second National Forum of Young Health Researchers in September 2026;
– The structuring of a National Network of Young Health Researchers;
– The establishment of MINRESI–CPC Joint Research Units in strategic areas;
– The development of mobility programs, internships, and co-supervision;

– The development of mobility programs, internships, and co-supervision;

-The creation of a joint monitoring and evaluation committee to ensure transparency and accountability.

These actions aim to strengthen training, encourage scientific excellence, and promote the emergence of a new generation of competent and committed researchers.
