The Pasteur Center of Cameroon strengthens the biosafety skills of its staff

The Pasteur Center of Cameroon (CPC) launched, from November 18 to 26, 2025, an intensive capacity-building program dedicated to biosafety. During five days of training, technical teams will be mobilized to strengthen practices that help prevent any accidental exposure to or dissemination of pathogens. This initiative reflects the Center’s commitment to sustainably reinforcing a culture of safety within its teams.

For Martial Yonga, Biosafety Officer at the CPC, the goal of this training is clear: to minimize risks for staff and ensure a working environment that meets international biosafety standards. Participants will be introduced to essential concepts such as biorisk management, laboratory biosecurity, decontamination procedures, and the safe management of biological waste.

At the opening of the program, the Director General, Dr. Mirdad Kazanji, praised the teams’ commitment and encouraged them to make the most of this session. He also highlighted the pivotal contribution of the Biosafety Officer, whose perseverance made it possible to engage technical and financial partners. This point was also emphasized by the Scientific Director, Dr. Sara Eyangoh, who reminded that this effort comes at a time when international support for Africa is becoming increasingly scarce.

Nearly a hundred professionals — laboratory technicians, reception-sample collection staff, quality experts, and cleaning technicians — are participating in this strategic training. Enhancing their skills represents a crucial investment for the Pasteur Center, which thereby reaffirms its commitment to ensuring a safer working environment and strengthening collective vigilance.
