The Centre Pasteur of Cameroon (CPC) continues its commitment to scientific excellence and the strengthening of biosecurity
The institution now stands out on the continental stage thanks to the recognition of its expertise by Africa CDC and the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM), which gives it a strategic role in the implementation of African biosafety and biosecurity standards.
This recognition takes the form of awarding the title of African Regional Subject Matter Expert (Af-RSME) to Mr. Martial Yonga, Biosafety Officer of the CPC, at a ceremony held in Addis Ababa from April 20 to 24, 2026, at the Africa CDC headquarters. This distinction primarily highlights the CPC’s capacity to produce and share leading expertise in biorisk management, alongside 14 other high-level African experts.
M. Martial Yonga, Biosafety Officer du CPC
Beyond the individual honor, this appointment represents a strategic lever for the CPC: it strengthens its institutional credibility, facilitates access to African and international biosafety standards, and supports the sustainable development of internal capacities. In particular, it will allow the center to optimize its biosafety systems, support staff training, issue continentally recognized certifications, and lead improvement projects supported by Africa CDC and ASLM.
A distinction that enhances the visibility of the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon
This distinction also increases the visibility of the Pasteur Center of Cameroon (CPC), consolidating its role as a scientific reference and source of technical support in Cameroon, the sub-region, and across the continent. Ranked at level 4, the highest level of the Africa CDC’s Regional Training and Certification Program for Biosafety and Biosecurity Professionals (RTCP-BBP), the Pasteur Center of Cameroon thus confirms its ongoing commitment to scientific excellence, the safety of its teams and infrastructure, and its active contribution to public health priorities in Cameroon and Africa.
