Swedish researchers visit the Pasteur Center of Cameroon as part of the EDCTP UTI-Diag project

On November 3 and 4, 2025, the Pasteur Center of Cameroon (CPC) welcomed a delegation of researchers from Stockholm, Sweden, as part of the UTI-Diag project. This innovative research initiative aims to improve the diagnosis and management of urinary tract infections, a major public health issue.

The UTI-Diag project focuses on developing a rapid diagnostic strip and a device capable of identifying the bacteria responsible for urinary tract infections, detecting antibiotic resistance genes, and measuring C-reactive protein (CRP) and creatinine. The goal is to provide healthcare professionals with more precise tools to guide antibiotic prescriptions and thus help combat antimicrobial resistance.
Coordinated by the Karolinska Institute and Stockholm University, the project is being implemented in Cameroon by the Pasteur Centre of Cameroon and in Senegal by the Pasteur Institute of Dakar.

During their stay at CPC, the Swedish researchers were welcomed by the Director General, Dr. Mirdad Kazanji. The Scientific Director, Dr. Sara Eyangoh, presented to them the missions, activities, and facilities of the Centre before accompanying them on a tour of the laboratories, including the Bacteriology-Parasitology-Mycology lab.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of gifts between Prof. Alfven Aron Tobias, the project’s principal investigator, and Dr. Kazanji, symbolizing the quality and strength of the international scientific collaboration forged through this program.
