International training – Evaluation of diagnostic tests

The Centre Pasteur du Cameroun welcomes participants in the course on the evaluation of diagnostic tests.

Since Monday 7 April 2025, it has provided a training environment for around twenty staff, mainly working in the Virology and Epidemiology units of Pasteur Network Afrique and the Institut Pasteur de Paris. They come from the Institut Pasteur in Bangui, the Institut Pasteur in Dakar, the Institut Pasteur in Morocco, the Institut Pasteur in Côte d’Ivoire, the Institut Pasteur in Algeria and the Centre Pasteur in Cameroon.

These doctors, engineers and laboratory technicians will be trained in the various stages of validating a diagnostic test (from the laboratory to use in the field), understanding the main measures used to assess the validity and reproducibility of tests (sensitivity, specificity, VPP, VPN, LR+, LR-, ROC curves, kappa index, Bland-Altman method) and, finally, drawing up a protocol with identification and discussion of biases. Muriel VRAY, Nicolas BERTHET from Institut Pasteur and Richard NJOUOM, Delia.D DJUICY from Centre Pasteur du Cameroun are the main trainers at the Yaoundé meeting, which ends on Friday 11 April 2025.

The training session was opened by Dr MIRDAD KAZANJI, Director General of the Centre Pasteur du Cameroun, who was accompanied by Dr Sara EYANGOH, Scientific Director, and Sandrine KYANE, Strategic Development Regional Officer of Pasteur Network for Africa. Dr KAZANJI thanked the Epidemiology of Emerging Diseases Unit at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, the main funder of the activity, and Pasteur Network for organising the course.
