The CPC virology laboratory produces a new PhD in clinical biology
Doctor Pauliana Vanessa ILOUGA received a very honourable mention with congratulations from the jury on 11 March 2025 following the defence of her research work with a view to obtaining a PhD in clinical biology at the Catholic University of Central Africa. The research, which focused on the theme: ‘Molecular characterisation of SARS-CoV-2 in Cameroon: genetic diversity, dynamics of introduction and spread of variants’ is the fruit of 04 years spent in the virology laboratory of the Centre Pasteur du Cameroun. It describes the molecular epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 in Cameroon during the waves of COVID-19 recorded between 2020 and 2022. Using various molecular techniques, in particular rRT-PCR and next-generation sequencing(a cutting-edge technique for genomic surveillance, this thesis highlights tools that can be used in public health to combat epidemics and emerging and re-emerging diseases. The neo-doctor has the merit of having presented tools that are available and can be used for prevention in the event of future epidemics in Cameroon.
